Because of this area’s off-the-beaten-path nature (the
reviewer is talking about the Puna district)
, I only
recommend two places here. There’s
Art and Orchids B &
B
, a cute yearling with three rooms ($89=$99 each)*. The
hosts of this property are making a name for themselves
with their “above and beyond” hospitality style. Along with
abundant and delicious breakfasts, they’ve been known to
throw in free dinners for folks who arrive hungry and will
pack up a box breakfast for those who need to leave early
(guests also have use of the kitchen and can cook for
themselves). The house is stocked with dozens of books
and DVDs for guests’ use (each room comes with its own
DVD player and high-end cable TV) plus snorkels, beach
towels, and other beach toys are lent to guests free of
charge. They even offer on-site babysitting and art classes
to those who come with children. There’s an art studio out
back (hence the name) and the owner Markie will teach
interested guests how to make paper and do other crafts
($15/hour). All in all, this is a cute, unpretentious B&B
decorated with the owner’s handmade turtle mosaics. One
final selling point: This place has Jacuzzi bathtubs and a hot
tub out back.
*Current room prices $90 to $115.
